Some people may find pleasure in acts that are out of the ordinary and may seem strange to others. Paraphilias are often associated with recurrent and intense sexual fantasies and behaviors that are not considered normal in our society.
There are a wide variety of paraphilias, ranging from fetishism, which involves sexual attraction to inanimate objects or body parts, to scatophilia, which involves feces. Other paraphilias include urophilia, sexual arousal from urine, or sadomasochism, which involves pain and humiliation in a sexual context.
It is important to note that paraphilias are not necessarily dangerous or unhealthy in themselves, but they can be problematic if there is a violation of consent or the physical integrity of one or both partners. It is also essential that everyone is able to set their own boundaries and respect those of others, in order to practice healthy and respectful sexuality.
Some individuals have sexual behaviors that are outside the norm, called paraphilias. However, some of these behaviors are not necessarily harmful, as long as they involve the mutual consent of all adults involved and are practiced in a context of pleasure and experimentation. This is the case, for example, of fetishism, where some people are attracted to specific objects or parts of the human body. Foot fetishists and sex toy lovers are the most numerous, but there are also those who are excited by stuffed animals or who like to include food in their sexual relations. These little games are intended to break the sexual routine that could kill the pleasure.
Exhibitionism and voyeurism are also known paraphilias. When practiced in specialized places such as Internet sites, peep shows or erotic shows, and when they do not violate the freedom of a third party, these behaviors remain harmless.
Some people engage in sexual behaviors that are out of the norm. And some of these behaviors are not so bad. As long as they involve the notion of consent from each of the adults who practice them, paraphilias actually subvert the original nature of sexual intercourse and perpetuate it in a context that is linked only to pleasure and experimentation.
This is the case with fetishism, for example, which is practiced by individuals attracted to specific objects or parts of the human body. Foot fetishists are the most numerous, as are sex toy enthusiasts. Some are also excited by stuffed animals and others still love to have sex by including food. In short, small harmless games intended to break the sexual routine that would end up killing the pleasure.
Exhibitionism and voyeurism are also among the most well-known paraphilias. When they do not violate the freedom of a third party and are practiced in specialized places (websites, peep shows, erotic shows, etc.), these behaviors remain completely harmless.
Urophilia (also called ondinism or golden shower) consists of taking pleasure under one or more jets of urine. Coprophilia, on the other hand, provides the same pleasures but through contact with excrement. Obviously, the notion of humiliation must be considered in these uncommon and often dirty practices.
Some specialists will classify cross-dressing as a paraphilia. Role playing rather than abnormal sexual behavior, the art of disguising oneself to create an exciting sexual context is certainly not a deviant attitude. Just a little naughty side without gravity.
That said, among the strangest behaviors, we still note people who are sexually excited by open wounds. The film Crash (1996), by David Cronenberg, paints a rather disturbing portrait of this. We may not understand but certainly not judge.
Necrophilia, punishable by law even if it does not actually harm anyone, is still considered a desecration of a corpse. As evidenced by the film Kissed (1996) by Canadian director Lynne Stopkewich, sex with a corpse remains problematic in many ways. Fortunately, not everyone is an embalmer, which significantly limits access to cadavers and cold rooms.
A recent activity in the wonderful world of paraphilias: diapers! Yes, we can’t stop perversion!! ABDLs (Adult-Baby Diaper Lovers) may surprise you since they look perfectly ridiculous in their erect diapers, but it’s a growing phenomenon, especially among heterosexual men.
Finally, our current must-have: cybersex. Having sex via webcam is quite trendy these days. For some women, it’s a safe way to have sex with strangers while minimizing the risk of running into a psychopath, while for some men, it’s the most correct way to cheat on their partner without sticking their willy where it shouldn’t be.
